We wanted to introduce you to some of our favourite dry herb vaporizers from the Vape Cove lineup. We have 3 great devices that we believe to be a great fit for any person at any experience level. We are going to go through an in-depth review of each device. Comparing things such as each vaping products dry herb vaporizing capabilities, the amount of vapor that gets drawn from a pull, the settings, and features of each device as well as each device's charging time and battery life. Finally, we will give each device a personal opinion and rating out of 5. But before that, we want to talk about how a weed vaporizer or dry herb vaporizer actually works.

What is a Dry Herb Vaporizer?

A dry herb vaporizer will heat the cannabis flower to the point where the cannabinoid and terpene compounds in the flower begin evaporating. This process occurs without actually combusting the flower so you are only getting pure cannabinoid vapor. These vapes are specifically designed for vaporizing dry herb rather than other vaporizers that are designed to vape concentrates like a wax vaporizer, or CO₂ extracts.

How Does a Dry Herb Vaporizer Work?

So how does a dry herb vape actually work? Your dry herb vaping device typically has a heating chamber where you put your marijuana into. Within the chamber, there are heating elements that surround your cannabis. Through conduction and/or convection heating, depending on your device, the heat will be transferred to your cannabis turning the cannabinoid and terpene compounds into vapor.

There are two different types of dry herb vapes, a convection vaporizer, and a conduction vaporizer. Conduction heating involves a conduction vaporizer that uses heating elements to directly heat the marijuana herb that it's coming into contact with. A convection vaporizer works like a typical convection oven. It circulates hot air around the herb. This gradually heats the cannabis, allowing the compounds to evaporate without any combustion.

How To Use A Dry Herb Vaporizer

Finally, we wanted to cover how to use a dry herb vaporizer properly. The steps should be pretty straightforward and even though there are some slight differences between each portable dry herb vaporizer, the steps should remain relatively similar and apply to most vaporizers.

  1. Grind the cannabis: You need to make sure to grind your herb before you begin vaping. Without a fine and consistent grind, your vaping experience might not be as good.
  2. Fill your heating chamber: You want to start loading the ground cannabis into the heating chamber of your vape device. Make sure not to pack your chamber too tight. If you have a conduction vaporizer then it's fine to pack it more tightly but if it's a convection vaporizer you need to give the cannabis enough room for air to flow through the chamber.
  3. Heat up the vaporizer: If you want the most out of your dry herb vaporizer you need to give it a little time to heat up before you can begin using it. This can take anywhere from 10 seconds to nearly 2 minutes, it all depends on the type of device you have and the settings or features it may include. If you do have a device with temperature control, you will notice higher temperature settings result in thicker clouds with a greater effect while lower temperature settings provide more flavourful draws.
  4. Take a draw: Finally your device is heated up and you can draw from your device. You want to prepare your draw by breathing out fully to empty your lungs. This allows you to take a nice long draw. You place your lips on your mouthpiece and inhale with nice a steady pace. After you finish your hit try to take in a small breath of fresh air to help push any remaining vapor into your lungs
  5. Exhale Breath out releasing the vapor with that same steady pace you drew with. Make sure you're not holding the vapor in your lungs for too long, you only need to hold it in for a few seconds to feel the effects.
  6. Turn off the heat: Make sure to power off your device once you finish as to not waste the battery or burn excess cannabis. Be sure that the vaporizer has cooled completely before you put it away or clean it.

Our Favourite Weed Vaporizer's

Airistech - Herbva 5G Vaporizer

The first herbal vaporizer is the Airistech - Herbva 5G Vaporizer starting at $49.99. This is a very small and portable vaporizer. The Herbva 5G turns on with 5 clicks of the power button and comes with 3 temperature control settings between 199 and 215°C. When it comes to performance this device is a decent budget dry herb vape mod at its price point. It gets the job done without a doubt, but we have noticed the heater is not that strong and the vapor quality and production can be low at times, something to keep in mind. The heating chamber is small so you will be putting less dried herb in the chamber. The device battery life is quite limited too as you can only get a few sessions in before it needs a charge while charging can take anywhere between 1-2 hours. Sometimes it is more worth it to dish out some extra cash for a better vaporizer, trust us you will be thankful in the long run. If you're looking for a small and affordable device then you got it with the Herbva 5G, but when it comes to performance the Herbva might be a little weaker than other devices on this list. We give this device a 2.9 out of 5. It still gets the job done. Just don't have high expectations for this device.

ZEUS - Arc Dry Herb Vaporizer

The second cannabis vaporizer is the ZEUS Arc Dry Herb Vaporizer which starts at $259.99. This is a dry herb vape pen for people who can splurge a little and get something really sleek and compact that also packs a lot of power. You definitely get what you pay for with this device. It is incredibly easy to use with just 1 button allowing you to operate the entire device. It takes around 2 minutes to heat up fully which might feel long but the consistent vapor is worth the wait. The Zeus features 3 different temperatures that can be changed with the 1 button. Our favourite aspect is that the cannabis vapor is consistent whenever you give it enough time to build up. The heating element temperature doesn't get too hot but just enough to vaporize the cannabis. While the heating chamber itself is large enough to carry a good amount of marijuana it is easy to clean out and replace the herb as well. We can't say enough good things about this device other than it is a bit pricey. You really get what you pay for with this device so we are giving it a 4.5 out of 5.

Yocan - Stix 320mAh Portable Mod

Our last and final vaporizer is the Yocan Stix Portable Mod it starts at $19.99 it is actually a concentrate vaporizer for those interested in vaping oils, wax, or shatter. The Yocan Stix is a small yet solid pen-shaped device that comes in 5 different colors. The Yocan Stix is super easy to use with just one button for all operations on the device including changing between the three temperature settings which can be done by rapidly tapping the button 3 times. You do have to fill the Yocan pods with your own oil, juice, wax, or shatter to use it. What's great is the refillable cartridge also has a leak-proof design meaning you won't be spilling oil anywhere unintentionally. The draw from the vaporizer pen produces a great vapor which is a bit more expected from oil or wax. One small issue is that the Yocan Stix features a 320mah battery, meaning the battery life might not be as good as other devices but that's definitely not a deal-breaker. Personally, we love this device, it's really inexpensive and gets the job done for you. We have no problem giving this device a 3.5 out of 5.

Conclusion

We hope you found this article helpful! Unfortunately, we do not have any tabletop vaporizers or a desktop vaporizer in our lineup, our good buddies at 180 smoke or Kick Ash Vapes might have those more advanced herb vaporizers so be sure to check out their hardware for smoking cannabis and vaporizing cannabis!
