Vaping has changed the lives of many people and we want to help anyone that is looking to quit smoking. We hope this article can help convince you to take the necessary steps to help you quit smoking.

How Tobacco Smoking Affects your body

We want to first talk about the dangers of smoking. Smoking can cause lung disease as cigarette smoking is responsible for most cases of lung cancer. A tobacco product can contain tar and carbon monoxide, both poisonous substances that affect people's health. We wanted to go over the ways that smoking triggers health risks in different areas of the body

The Brain

The brain is one of our most important organs, so why put it at risk? The likeliness that a smoker will have a stroke is 2 to 4 times that of a nonsmoker. Strokes have the capability to cause permanent brain damage and even death.

The Heart

When you're smoking tobacco your heart is a major risk of heart problems or cardiovascular disease. Chemicals in tobacco smoke increase the chance of heart problems and cardiovascular diseases. Diseases and problems such as:

  • As a result of plaque build-up from smoking (atherosclerosis), you have an increased risk of blood clots and narrowing of artery walls which will reduce blood flow as a result of plaque build-up
  • Damaged blood vessels. Blood vessels become slower and grow larger. This makes blood flow much slower throughout the body while increasing your heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Other cardiovascular diseases include coronary heart disease, heart attack, artery blockage, and strokes from blood clots or burst blood vessels.

Immune system

Smoking can reduce your immune system drastically and can cause inflammation. Autoimmune conditions surface as a result, including:

Lungs

As a smoker, your lungs are exposed to the effects of smoking almost immediately after the cigarette smoke enters your lungs. Lung health is incredibly important but it may take several years before any serious symptoms from smoking-related lung disease surface. So it might be difficult to spot if you are not aware of it. Smoking damages the airway and alveoli in your lungs, these are the air sacs that absorb oxygen and anything else you inhale. The most common lung problems associated with smoking are:

  • Emphysema - Reduces the alveoli in your lungs making it difficult to breathe.
  • Bronchitis - When your airways produce excessive amounts of mucus the result is long-term cough and inflamed airways.
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - Causes wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
  • Pneumonia - Lungs become inflamed and your alveoli start filling with water
  • Asthma - a chronic condition that causes wheezing and difficulty breathing. Smoking can increase the cause of an asthma attack.

Mouth

Your mouth is the first point of contact when you begin smoking. As a result of this, can cause a handful of oral health side effects, including:

  • Bad Breath
  • Stained teeth
  • Cottonmouth
  • Reduced ability to taste.
  • Gum disease.

Vaping VS Smoking

Since we went over how smoking can affect different areas of your body we wanted to compare how you might be affected by vaping. Now we are not saying there are health benefits to vaping, but it definitely contains fewer chemicals than a typical cigarette. Nicotine is not known to cause cancer but since it is an incredibly addictive substance, nicotine addiction is very common especially for teens that are exposed to nicotine smoking early. Nicotine is known to alter brain development in any teen and nonsmoker while also affecting memory and concentration.

All of this to say we truly believe vaping is a better alternative but don't go thinking it's good for you. There are still many unknown long-term health risks that can potentially present themselves. Just be smart and do your research, understand the risks involved, and get into vaping at your own discretion.

On the other hand, if you are a heavy cigarette smoker then we would really recommend you get into vaping as it can almost provide that cigarette smoking experience just without all the terrible chemicals and health defects that can come with it as well.

Smoking Cessation Programs and Aids

If you plan on quitting smoking but aren't into the idea of vaping, we want you to know there are plenty of alternatives to help you quit smoking other than vaping. There is no right way to quit but just know that whether it's another tool or a helpful quitting program we have you covered on some alternatives to aid you in your journey to quit smoking. Vaping is actually not considered a cessation aid because unfortunately there isn't enough evidence to prove that vaping actually aids in smoking cessation. Here are just a few different ways you can start quitting.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)

NRT helps you deal with difficult withdrawal symptoms along with cravings by reducing those symptoms. There are 5 NRT forms that have been approved by the FDA:

  1. Nicotine Patch
  2. Nicotine Gum
  3. Nicotine Nasal Spray
  4. Nicotine Inhalers
  5. Nicotine Lozenge

These forms of NRT are only meant to be used for a limited amount of time and should gradually be used less before completely stopping the usage of the nicotine replacement product.

Prescription Medication

Make sure you talk to your doctor before considering taking any prescriptions. These two prescription medications have been approved by the FDA. Varenicline (Chantix) and Bupropion (Zyban) are both prescriptions that come in tablet form and are only available through prescription. What Chantix does is target areas in your brain that are affected by nicotine and reduces the rewarding effects that you typically get from nicotine.

On the other hand, Zyban's exact method of aiding in you quit smoking is not entirely known, yet it is approved by the FDA. The benefits must surely outweigh the risks right? Some common side effects from Chantix can include nausea; constipation; gas; vomiting; and trouble sleeping. Reported side effects of Zyban include dry mouth; stuffy nose; trouble sleeping and nightmares; feelings of depression, anxious or having suicidal thoughts.

Cold Turkey

A lot of people who smoke quit cold turkey - this means they stop completely without the aid of medicines or nicotine replacement. It's true that a lot of people have cut out smoking by going cold turkey but your chances of success are actually higher with the use of smoking cessation aids.

    Withdrawal Symptoms

With quitting comes many withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms like fatigue, cravings, coughing, increase in appetite leading to weight gain, headaches, dizziness, depression, anxiety and mental fog. When you are going through nicotine withdrawal you can be sure to anticipate a few of these symptoms. Not everyone is the same so you may experience things differently than others.

The STLTH device has disposable cartridges similar to that of JUUL devices. You can't go wrong with this device, it's super easy to use. They have a variety of nicotine strengths as well so you can gradually decrease the nicotine levels as you progress.

Our last device is the Vuse Epod Device Kit which starts at $9.99, with pod replacement packs starting at $13.99. This device is definitely the cheapest but still gets the job done without a doubt. Its design follows that of the JUUL and STLTH being that it has disposable cartridges as well. One difference is the mouthpiece which is designed for a greater mouthfeel when drawing from the device. If you're on a budget and looking to quit this device is a no brainer.

Our next device is the Envi Boost Disposable Device, this device starts at $16.99. This device is the easiest to use on our list, essentially once you purchase the device, all you need to do is draw from it and when it eventually runs out or the draws are no longer flavourful you just toss it out and grab a new one. The device is very compact and the cylinder design is very modern and cool. It gives you a great throat hit with incredibly delicious flavours like Mango Peach Watermelon and Orange Mango Guava.
